This examination determines the heart rate at every level of exercise and identifies abnormal electrical conduction (arrhythmias) that may occur during exercise that may not be present at rest. Heart rate during exercise can be an important indicator of fitness. Understanding the heart rate “normals" for an individual horse is important for training in performance horses.
The Equimetre device also records an ECG, speed, stride length and distance. Changes in stride length and heart rate can be detected which can indicate a cardiac problem and/OR a musculoskeletal problem that may not be realized.
